What is the Digital Economy Act?

The Digital Economy Act is a newly passed piece of British legislation that is meant to protect copyright online and increase regulation and control of the way people use the Internet.

What can you do about this?

How did it happen?

• The entertainment industry is refusing to adapt to new models, clinging to obsolete 20th Century thinking.
• The Bill was drafted by unelected officials after lobbying from the entertainment industry.
• It was passed in a hurry during the Parliamentary "wash up" process without full scrutiny.

Why should you be worried?

• Websites will be blocked for alleged copyright infringement.
• Families accused of sharing copyrighted files will be disconnected without trial. They will have to pay to appeal.
• Even if you don't live in the UK, it sets a worrying precedent for other countries to follow suit.

Disconnection or "technical measures" like bandwidth throttling will kick in if file sharing does not drop by an incredible 70%. There are no alternative punishments to disconnection, no matter what the damage it will cause, and there is no statutory limit on the length of these disconnections, called, in the weasel words of the Act, "temporary account suspension".

Despite thousands of letters of concern and a petition with over 35,000 signatures of protest, the Bill was rushed through in the final days of parliament during the "wash up process" - it was not given the full scrutiny that it deserved.

This is a piece of legislation that gives potentially unlimited power to unelected officials, and assumes guilt on the part of those accused of copyright infringement. We can expect the industry lobbies to be out in force to roll back our human right to freedom of expression in the name of copyright very, very soon.

What's happening now?

Now that the Bill has been passed and the election is underway, candidates from all the main parties are keen to distance themselves from it. They admit that there are serious concerns and that the Bill did not receive the scrutiny and debate it deserves.

Calatrava National High School

Mark Jerwin Sacapano won the Silver in 400 meter run in secondary boys. He is one of the adopted son of Mr. Reynaldo Liberato (MAPEH Teacher of Calatrava National High School). According to him he can beat Jon Mark Macho of Western Visayas who won the gold, if he have more practice and budget.

He is a honor student and Athlete of the Year in Calatrava National High School. He now have been draft by Far Eastern University. He will take up BSED major in Physical Education.

We live in 5th class municipality in the province of Romblon, Philippines. We still can compete to such events. We still have our will to make history even if we are not popular such Manny Paquiao. Life is happens once.

20 Romblon local execs, bets join NP

Twenty local officials and candidates of Romblon province led by incumbent Gov. Natalio Beltran Tuesday abandoned the Lakas-Kampi CMD party and joined the Nacionalista Party (NP) headed by Senator Manny Villar in what the NP officials described as another step that would enhance the victory of Villar and the NP ticket in the May 2010 polls.

Beltran, his entire slate composed of his running mate Rolindo Perez and 17 of his candidates and Rep. Eleandro Jesus Madrona were formally welcomed Tuesday by Villar during a brief ceremony at the NP headquarters at Star Mall in Mandaluyong City.

Beltran and his entire slate vowed to give their all-out support to the tandem of Villar and his running mate Senator Loren Legarda and the NP senatorial ticket.

They were the latest batch of political leaders who shifted their support to Villar, who in turn expressed elation over the turn of events, saying this is a good sign that he and his partymates would win in the May 2010 polls.

The incumbent mayors are Mayor Gerard S. Montojo of Romblon; Mayor Nicasio Ramos of Cajidiocan; Mayor Emmanuel F. Madrona of San Agustin; Mayor Ibarra Manzala of Magdiwang; Mayor Nanet Tansingco of San Fernando; Mayor Jory Faderanga of Banton; Mayor Asher Visca of Sta. Fe; Mayor Jason Fabila of Ferrol; Mayor Eddie Mazo of Corcuera and Mayor Filipino Tandog of San Jose.
The mayoral candidates who shifted support to NP are Geminiano Galicia of San Andres; Leila Arboleda of Looc; Elmer Fortu of Calatrava; Roger Fodra of Odiongan; Adrian Feudo of Concepcion; and Artemio Madrid of Sta. Maria; and Eddie Lota of Alcantara.

Aside from these top local officials and candidates, a total of 17 bets for vice mayor and 136 candidates for councilor in Romblon are also carrying the NP banner. “We are confident that more and more of our local officials will shift support to the Nacionalista Party. With the rate of local officials supporting our slate, we predict V-Day on election day for the NP,” Villar said.

The Liberal Party (LP) has called a photo of Andal Ampatuan Jr. flashing the 'Laban' to imply his support for Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino a "sick joke."

“That is a sick joke. You can only laugh at it. It is obviously meant to hit Noynoy Aquino who is leading in the surveys,” LP campaign manager Butch Abad told Yahoo! Southeast Asia in a phone interview.

Ampatuan Jr. has been tagged as the face of violence, being a key suspect in the grisly November 23, 2009 Maguindanao massacre which left at least 57 people, including members of the media, dead.

Abad said he believes Ampatuan’s act to make a ‘Laban’ sign was perhaps a way to "repay" his ally, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo who supposedly ordered the release of the other Ampatuans implicated in the massacre.

“It’s an instant repayment of Ampatuan’s release by allowing themselves to be paraded like that, that they are hoping they could undermine Noynoy’s lead,” he added.

Abad noted that the younger Ampatuan, who is locked in a high security facility, would not have had the privilege to give a press conference unless someone from a higher office allowed it.

Abad said this also further notes of Arroyo’s alleged alliance with Nacionalista Party bet, Senator Manuel Villar.

“The principal beneficiary of that is the leading opponent of Sen. Aquino. You see the ‘Villaroyo’,” Abad added.

The NP denied any hand in the controversial Ampatuan photo, but emphasized that it was Aquino’s mom, former president Corazon “Cory” Aquino who helped the Ampatuans gain power.

“Before the LP again starts to distort facts in order to discredit Senator Villar, let it be known how the Ampatuans came to be the most powerful clan in Maguindanao. And it all started with a political appointment from Noynoy Aquino’s mother, then president Cory Aquino,” NP said.

“On any account, one thing is clear: that the political career of the elder Ampatuan started during the Aquino administration,” the NP added, an accusation Abad refuted.

Living in Calatrava, Romblon

I move here in Calatrava, Romblon in July 27, 2007. I have full of energy with my new home but that is only my imagination. Compare to city life, life here is hard but easy if you use your muscle like planting crops or just go fishing if you have time.

Some people here are just ordinary. They lived simple life in regardless of what is happening to our country today. I saw some of them walking everyday just to catch fish or to trade their fruits, crops, etc. This is the reality.

People in this community always work hard. They will sacrifice their family just to earn more. Their children suffers the consequence of their actions. A parent should care for his / her child. They should guide their children.

Some problems of our young people here is money. They worship it. For them, money can buy everything. Even some of them sell their body just to have load to their cellphone other use it to feed their families. These were some facts that I've discovered in the past few months.

Few people in this community work hard to help our young people today but majority of them wants it the same way. But life changed. We need to do new things and improve our lifestyle. Not just for money, fame, power. We need to change for the better future of our young ones.

Why some people like to be on top of others? Why they keep doing things that can hurt others. Why they still trust people who always betray the. Why they always use people as a tool and not considers their feeling. Why?.....

The answer is, we are all human, but to be human you must care for others.

Where ever you go, you will still experience this kind of situation. Just don't let the time pass by. You need to stop once in while to feel that life is simple. Make it Simple. Feel it Simple. Live it simple.
